Can iPhones (2G or 3G) be used to access internet through wireless network?

Can either 2G or 3G be used to access private or public wireless networks at NO cost like the iPod touch’s can? Also, will this be available on an unlocked model?

Yes the iphone has wifi just like the ipod touch. Yes i know many people who have an old iphone with no service anymore and still use it just like an ipod touch.

    yes and the 3g is not unlocked but will be soon and the 2g is unlockable
