Great site – people have driven all the major roads in the UK and tested phone signal, these can be referenced on a massive map database for free – rock on!

Heres another:

http://www.sitefinder.ofcom.org.uk/

Click on GB SITE, enter your postcode and click on the blue triangles, each triangle is a transmitter mast, you can see who covers your area

Hope this helps mate :o )

Mobile broadband? Which network? 2g or 3g?

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

How do I tell which network I am on? 3g or 2g? Also, I’ve noticed my connection is the minimum it needs at the time. So, online games lag. How do I fix this?

O.K first we’re gonna start with the speeding up of your system. First, put a flashdrive in (preferrably sony or Hewlett-Packard) Then at auto-play, press "Speed up your system" Then go through the process:
Now, to the 2G or 3G
3G is for Wifi signals and Cell-phones. ‘
2G is for Mobile Broadband so you choose 2G

Why is my Blackberry Storm not connecting to the 3G network?

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

In the little booklet it says the service notification on the top right of the Storm will say "3G" or "EDGE" whenever it is in those coverage areas, yet I still haven’t seen this. The browser is fairly slow, at least compared to my friends iPhones. What is up with this? It’s kind of annoying, since I got this phone almost exclusively for this purpose. I’m not getting any different service than I was with my old, text-only phone.

Hit the OPTIONS button from the menu

MOBILE NETWORK

And check that the DATA SERVICES option is set to connect to 3G

I found this problem when I got mine, it was set up for 2G access only, not to roam from 2G to 3G depending on what service was available.

Can the German iPhone work on T-Mobile US 3G network?

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

I know the answers about the US version of the iPhone, but just wanted to know if the T-Mobile Germany iPhone will be able to work on the new T-Mobile US 3G network.

Thanks!

Hi Kirky
No, it will not work on T-Mobiles USA 3g network. The iPhone is
WCDMA850/1900/2100
T-Mobile is WCDMA1700
It will work on the ATT 3g network which is WCDMA850/1900

What is the best UK MObile network?

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

I have heard Orange are the best for signal as they say "We aim to put more transmitters in more places than any other network" but i have also heard That orange will not work as well underground or in tall buildings as it is a GSM-1800 network just like T-Mobile whereas 02 And Vodafone Are GSM-900 And i know they are not best for price. But 2G signal is the best right??

GSM – Orange
WCDMA or 3G – O2

2G and 3g network have no comparisons. You have to check your needs as if you need high speed internet access you shall go for 3G.
3G signals also don’t have any drawbacks, but remember there are always exceptions.

WBR!

Will the Sony Xperia X1 work on American wireless 3g network?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

I’m planning on purchasing this phone later this month unlocked from a vendor a year prior to the official north american release. I know the phone itself will work with T-mobile or AT&T it’s a SIM phone. I’m just wondering if the wireless 3g internet will work in north america?

In US, T-Mobile uses 1700MHz and 2100MHz to implement HSPA 3G, and AT&T uses 850 and 1900MHz for their HSPA 3G network. To support 3G, the phone has to support both frequencies – so just having one is not enough.

If you look at the press release from Sony about the X1 here:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/corporate/press/pressreleases/pressreleasedetails/key.PressResource.Global_X1-20080210

And scroll down to the bottom, it says it will support all of the above. So the answer is yes, it will work on either AT&T or T-Mobile’s US 3g network.

what isthe defination of a 3G network?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

I see advertised 3G network I want to know what it is.

3G stands for "3rd Generation"

The 3g network is the "3rd Generation" of mobile phone network. The first, or "1G", were analog networks common in the 80s and 90s.

In the late 90s, "2G", or "Digital" networks became more commonplace. Digital networks enabled features like internet, text messaging, picture messaging, etc… but the 2G networks were not very fast.

Today, we have "3G" networks in many areas. 3G expands on the 2g networks by offering much higher speeds, upwards of 14mbps in some instances. Additionally, many 3G networks allow simultaneous use of voice and data, whereby you can browse the internet and talk on a phone at the same time, something not available on 2G networks.

4g networks are currently under development, which will take the data speeds to an even new level.

Hope this helps!

Does the unlocked iPhone 3G work on the T-Mobile Network?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

If so, how well does it work? I currently have the T-Mobile Sidekick LX 2009 which is under the 3g network. I want to buy the iPhone 3G, but I need to make sure that it won’t run slow, and most importantly, that my plans (my faves, unlimited text messaging, unlimited internet browsing) will still work correctly. Help? Thanks!

It will only be able to run on T-mobiles EDGE network, not 3G. This is because t-mobile and at&t use slightly different technologies for their 3G networks.
The HTC Hero is a new android phone that will be coming out for t-mobile soon and has 3G. It is similar in size and shape to the iphone, and runs android which is a great platform.

What is a 3G network?

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

It says Sprint is making a 4g network. What does 3G and 4G mean?

my guess is generation but i’m probably wrong

3G is the common name for the newest high-speed mobile data network. GPRS is the original, and the slowest. Edge (2.5G) is faster and 3G is the fastest.

It has nothing to do with the telephones, although the phones have to support it.

When phone companies use ‘3g’ are they referring to the network or the speed?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Basically, I’m confused about if there’s just one 3g network or many that service providers use that all provide about the same speed?

A 3g network is just a high speed mobile broadband network for smartphones, cell phones and mobile broadband air cards for notebooks. The 3G network is for mobile web browsing and it’s used to increase your connection speed. In other words, it’s faster so your web pages and downloads load up faster than the normal digital 1X service, which is still available for calls and text messaging.

Each service provider has their own 3G network and some are much faster than others.
