Tutorial – iPhone 3G and 3GS 3.0 and 3.0.1 Internet Tethering – NO JAILBREAK!

Monday, February 8th, 2010

—–UPDATE (12/22/09)—–
AT&T has threatened to put a limit on their UNLIMITED data plan to 5GB/month. Heavy tethering users (such as myself) WILL GET DATA OVERAGE CHARGES if this is put into effect. YOU USE TETHERING AT YOUR OWN RISK.

DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR OS! YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO DO THIS TETHERING TRICK ON ANY OS OTHER THAN 3.0 AND 3.0.1!

Please read the following before you begin.

This video tutorial will show those who wish to get internet tethering on their iPhone 3G or 3GS with OS version 3.0 and 3.0.1, without having to jailbreak their device. This is a free modification to your iPhone.

Internet tethering enables you to connect your iPhone to your computer/laptop and use the internet connection from AT&T’s 3g network. This allows you to have an internet connection for your laptop anywhere that WiFi is not available, but 3G or EDGE is.

-This DOES NOT give you “free internet.” There is no such thing.
-This DOES NOT add any charges to your phone bill, however it is recommended that you have the unlimited data plan to prevent data overage charges. I am not responsible for extra data charges to your phone bill!

—If you still don’t understand what this modification will do for you, do not attempt.—

Remember, I can only confirm that this works on AT&T’s US network. If you have any luck on another provider, leave a comment here telling everyone what provider you have and what country you are in.

[How-To] Jailbreak your iPhone 2G/3G/3GS or iPod Touch 1G/2G/3G – Windows + Mac OS X

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

A video that shows you how to jailbreak a iPhone (and unlock it if you’d like) or a iPod Touch. The entier process is fast, easy, and safe. The software used to jailbreak is available for Windows and Mac OS X.

ACTUAL TUTORIAL: http://bit.ly/5oR4LP
BLACKRA1N: http://blackra1n.com/

You basically just need to make sure your device is already on 3.1.2. If it isn’t, you can either update to 3.1.2 or do a restore. A update just updates your device to 3.1.2 without removing anything already on the device. There are two ways to do a restore. You can click on restore and iTunes will download the firmware and restore your device with that firmware. It erases everything on your device. You can also download the 3.1.2 firmware manually by going here: http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ Make sure you download the 3.1.2 firmware for your iPhone or iPod Touch. Once you do that, alt+click (Windows) or option+click (Mac OS X) on the restore button in iTunes and look for the .IPSW you just downloaded.

Once you’re on 3.1.2, just open up blackra1n (link above) and click on the “make it ra1n” button. When that’s done (you’re back to your homescreen), open up the “blackra1n” app on your homescreen and install Cydia, ~NOT~ Rock. Rock is just a crappy version of Cydia that shouldn’t be around anymore. Done! Read the rest if you’re interested in an unlock for your iPhone.

If you want to unlock your iPhone, install “sn0w” while at the “blackra1n” app. Reboot, then pop in your new SIM card. Note if you’re on T-Mobile: You’ll have to disable 3G in Settings, General, Network, since T-Mobile’s 3g network isn’t compatible with the iPhone.

There you go! Ask any questions in the forum here http://bit.ly/5oR4LP or in the comments.

iPhone 3GS Smokes the 2G/3G – Apps and Website Tests

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

A video bake-off between the new iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 2G. Since the iPhone 2G has the same processor and graphics as the 3G, this works as a good comparison between the new 3GS and the old 2G/3G. Video tests boot time, loading and running various games, and testing load times of a few websites over Wi-Fi.
