Does Sprint really have a 4G network?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I just saw the commercial about the "Now Network" and at the end it said Sprint is the first company to have wireless 4G. Is this really true because 4G to me right now seems way too advanced to be out this early. Thanks!

It’s in development… I think they are field testing it in select markets now.

is it worth spend £200 on a new laptop?

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

it is called the Asus EeePC 4G and costs £200 but i already on a laptop that like 3 years old. plus my house dose not have a wireless network so my laptop will not be connected to the internet.

Intel Celeron M Processor
512 MB Memory
ASUS Linux Operating System
2 GB Flash Hard Drive
7" Widescreen Display

This is the spec for this laptop and to be honest its not worth it i work for a company who sell these and they are nothing more than a glorified memory pen… they only got 512 ram which wouldn’t allow you to go on line or have mobile broadband, I’d save your money and get something with a duel core at least 1GB ram and 120 GB hard drive rather than a 2GB flash drive… yes you can do your work on the go but you’ll find you’ll be bogged down with memory pens that you have to use to free up the 2GB memory on there…..

I need some important incite on Ipod Touch details?

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

This is a very important question for me, as I have been thinking about this for quite a long time now. I have saved up around five hundred dollars over the last month, and was wondering if I should buy an Ipod touch. I have always wanted one since its launch, but didn’t have the money for it. I now have more than enough money. Here is the catch though. I am well aware that a "supposed" new ipod touch (3rd gen.) is on its way to the market, and also that there is a new iphone that is in development. This iphone may make it to the Verizon wireless market because of Verizon’s upcoming 4g network, but still is unlikely because of AT&T renewing their contract. I have an idea in my head that near after the Apple conference in September, the new devices will be unveiled. I just want some of your opinions on what you think I should do….

Much help is appreciated. I hope I didn’t waste your time. Thank you.

well, i would wait, and see what comes out. i have an ipod touch, i absolutely hate it. it always freezes and shuts off and is always low on battery "/
i would wait for something new :D
i doubt the iphone will come to verizon though.
i hope i helped :D

Read This – Do you think this is a good or bad idea for the auto industry?

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

We saw it with cell phones and then televisions in the driver’s view, accidents were what rose right along with entertainment value. Do you predict internet surfing will produce a similar effect? Do you think this is a good or bad idea for the auto industry?

–quote—
Ford brings Wi-Fi to the highway

Ford is making its cars into mobile Wi-Fi hot spots.

The next generation of the Sync in-car entertainment and information system will use a USB mobile broadband modem to establish a secure wireless connection capable of supporting several devices simultaneously.

The system will be available next year on selected models — no word yet which ones — and you won’t need a subscription or hardware beyond the modem.

"While you’re driving to grandma’s house, your spouse can be finishing the holiday shopping and the kids can be chatting with friends and updating their Facebook profiles," said Mark Fields, Ford president of the Americas. "And you’re not paying for yet another mobile subscription or piece of hardware because Ford will let you use technology you already have."

Several automakers already offer in-car Internet access — Japanese drivers have been using it since 1997 — and many others are rushing to bring it to us. Ford’s announcement follows General Motors’ promise last week to make in-car connectivity available in seven models of trucks and SUVs. They’re the latest automakers to bring the infobahn to the autobahn.

Mercedes recently announced it has successfully tested in-vehicle Internet applications — including web browsing, vehicle software updates and VOIP — on a prototype 4g network. It follows BMW’s Internet-connected iDrive system and Chrysler’s Uconnect Web in-vehicle mobile hotspot. With so many automakers getting in on the action, there’s a push to introduce hardware standards.

Ford is taking a decidedly different approach, opting to allow consumers to plug in their own USB modem to get connected.

General Motors, on the other hand, offers a dealer-installed system called Chevrolet Wi-Fi by Autonet Mobile. It creates a Wi-Fi hot spot 300 feet in diameter around the vehicle, and GM claims the 3g network achieves speeds of up to 1.5 mbps. The hardware costs $199 after the $200 mail-in rebate, and the service costs $29 a month.

Given how connected we are, it makes sense for automakers to put the Internet in our cars. The number of iPhones and other mobile devices being used to connect to the Internet jumped 75 percent in the third quarter of this year, according to JiWire Mobile Audiences Insights Report.

Letting people log on from the road will be a big selling point among 20-something buyers, the so-called Millennials who have propelled much of Sync’s success. Millennials will make up 28 percent of the driving population next year, a nine-point increase from 2004.

Kids aside, Ford says interest in in-car connectivity is high among the general public, with one-third of people surveyed by the Consumer Electronics Association expressing interest in being able to check e-mail or surf the Web from the car

I think that any additional stimuli you place in vehicles will put drivers and passengers at more risk. The more there is going on inside the car, the less likely the driver will be aware of what is going on outside the car. People who text, talk, navigate and now surf the web in their cars, are putting the rest of those on the road at risk. I’m not sure what auto makers are thinking. Do they think it will encourage us to buy a new car, so we can take the internet with us to the grocery store? Anything that needs an internet connection, can be done at a rest area, hotel, or at our intended destination. I find this to be a dangerous convenience. That said, here are some ideas that may keep us safe while driving.

1. Invest in a Bluetooth device. Either an earpiece or a dash device.
2. Use a voice GPS unit, or with a windshield mount, you can place your smartphone in a safe view for directions while driving.
3. Use automated readers on you phone to alert you of calls and texts, and that let the person calling know you are unable to answer, as you are practicing safe driving.

Slight Wireless Network Problem?

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

OK, before you start judging I am usually quite knowledgeable with computer networking but I am stuck with a problem I cannot currently solve. I require a community to help.
Here are the distinct details- I am currently in O2 Broadband (LAN) but they gave me free a Thomson wireless and ADSL router for use with a LAN and WLAN at one home. The router’s specs are…

Interface Enabled:Yes

Physical Address:00:1D:68:0A:41:F5

Network Name (SSID):Amendra O2 Wireless

Interface Type:802.11g

Actual Speed:54 Mbps

Band:2.4G Hz

Allow New Devices:New stations are allowed (automatically)

Security Mode:WPA-PSK.

Simple details for you. My problem is the following- my LAN’s access to the internet is working so not an ISP problem but unfortunately the wireless access (overall) is not computing. I tried connecting to it with variable wireless enabled peripherals, it was detected sometimes but later simply disconnects. The message from Vista on my laptop is…
Wireless association failed because Windows did not receive a response from the wireless router.
It also mentions a low signal to be the problem and I tell you here as evidence my laptop and my wireless peripherals and all placed approx. 5 metres away so shouldn’t have a problem. So why is this occurring?
Tell me if you need more details.
Thanks
Oh My God.
You are a damn genius!
I never thought such a trivial alteration could solve this problem. Thank you so much.
And people call me a computer genius. They are right but thanks for helping me out here!
This was directed towards tonydakid by the way.
10 points at ya, when available

Hi,

A good idea would be to try changing your router’s "Wireless Channel" to Channel 4 (or other) as most other channels are affected by interference from house hold items such as microwaves, wireless phones etc.

If this does not fix the issue try other Channels

I hope this helps.

Edit: Glad i could help =)

Does MetroPcs support Quadband: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHZ 2G Network?

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Hi all, thanks for your answers in the past.
I am looking into buying a very cool phone on eBay and I am trying to find out if it will work with my MetroPcs account that I currently am using an activated working ZTE C79 phone.
The seller of the phone I want to buy and switch my service to sent me the following answer when I asked him if the phone will work with MetroPcs;
"you could contact your carrier first. If your carrier supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900 frequency, then it could work…This is a GSM mobile phone.(not 3 g or cdma network phone) Please make sure your network is compatible with GSM.."
I HAVE ALREADY CALLED MetroPcs and ASKED THEM this and THEY CANNOT ANSWER this question…..unbelievable…they say only "bring the phone to your nearest corporate store and ask them if the phone can be transfer service to.." RIDICULOUS!
I will NOT BUY NOR POSSES this phonw UNTIL AFTER I find out if it will work with MetroPcs.
Do you know if MetroPcs uses the above mentioned GSM frequency as stated by the seller of the phone I want…. GSM 850/900/1800/1900 frequency? Does metropcs support this frequency?
Note: The phone I want is UNLOCKED.
Thank you in advance if you know the answer…have a good day!
P.S. Please see below you can copy and paste the link to the phone I want on eBay if you want to view it;

what phone company actually has the largest 3g network?

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Both AT&T and Verizon claim to have the largest 3g network, on there commercials. Whats the truth?
Sorry, To clear somethings up, AT&T has the "Fastest" 3g Network, NOT largest.

OF COURSE THEY ARE BOTH GOING TO SAY THAT AND SPRINT, ATT AND VERIZON ALL CLAIM TO HAVE THE FASTEST 3G NETWORK TOO.. HOWEVER THE BEST WAY TO DETERMINE THIS IS TO GO TO EACH OF THEIR WEBSITES AND LOOK AT THEIR COVERAGE MAPS.. MAKE SURE TO LOOK AT THE AREAS THAT ARE 3G BECAUSE JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE ON THE ATT NETWORK DOESNT MEAN ITS ALWAYS 3G THERE IS ALSO THE EDGE NETWORK.. BUT EITHER WAY I LOVE MY SPRINT..
