How do I tell which network I am on? 3g or 2g? Also, I’ve noticed my connection is the minimum it needs at the time. So, online games lag. How do I fix this?
O.K first we’re gonna start with the speeding up of your system. First, put a flashdrive in (preferrably sony or Hewlett-Packard) Then at auto-play, press "Speed up your system" Then go through the process:
Now, to the 2G or 3G
3G is for Wifi signals and Cell-phones. ‘
2G is for Mobile Broadband so you choose 2G

Brad

So I went and got myself the new-to-Canada (finally!) HTC Hero today.
Thing is, Telus has exclusitivity, but since they’re now GSM, they can be used on all other phone carriers!
Verizon = CDMA/EVDO 800/1900
ATT = GSM/GPRS/Edge 850/1700/1900/2100; 3G 850/1900
T-Mobile = GSM/GPRS/Edge 1900; 3G 1700/2100
Telus Bell Rogers = GSM/GPRS/Edge 850/1700/1900/2100; 3G 850/1900
(So just compare the network frequency bands between the phone carriers and you’ll understand who’s compatible with who)
Anyway, you first get the phone/SIM unlocked through various sources (I got my unlock code off eBay), and simply follow my video’s instructions to get data and internet working on Rogers 3g network.
All programs – Settings – Wireless controls – Mobile network – Mobile network settings – Access point names – Menu – New APN – Name = “xxx” APN = “internet.com” Username = “wapuser1″ Password = “wap”

I have a sony ericsson k800i phone thats working with tmobile. Tmobile is not 3g and i would like to use the 3g features on my phone so i want to switch wireless networks. Cingular just came out with 3g and i was wondering if my phone would work with them or Verizon Wireless or Sprint. Also my phone has a Video Call technology and i wanted to know what wireless provider will be coming out with this techonology because my phone will suport it.
"Tmobile is not 3g…"
T-Mobile in the UK IS a 3g network, as most of the phones that they support (ie, SE K800i, Nokia N70/N73, SE W850i) work on there without a problem. I’m presuming that the States are just coming around to the 3G side of things, so whether or not that’s been updated, I couldn’t clarify for you.
So long as the K800i has the correct settings for the Cingular network, and is also unlocked to all networks (enabling you to have your Cingular chip in there) then you shouldn’t have a problem in the slightest.

I’m planning on purchasing this phone later this month unlocked from a vendor a year prior to the official north american release. I know the phone itself will work with T-mobile or AT&T it’s a SIM phone. I’m just wondering if the wireless 3g internet will work in north america?
In US, T-Mobile uses 1700MHz and 2100MHz to implement HSPA 3G, and AT&T uses 850 and 1900MHz for their HSPA 3G network. To support 3G, the phone has to support both frequencies – so just having one is not enough.
If you look at the press release from Sony about the X1 here:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/corporate/press/pressreleases/pressreleasedetails/key.PressResource.Global_X1-20080210
And scroll down to the bottom, it says it will support all of the above. So the answer is yes, it will work on either AT&T or T-Mobile’s US 3g network.

I want to get a 3g phone, but I don’t like the ones T-mobile has, is there any good phones out there that can work with T-mobiles 3g network? I want it to be priced under $350.
T-mobile USA uses 1700Mhz for the 3g network. This is unique in the world so your options are limited to devices developed only for this market.
Samsung t639, t819, Nokia 3555, 6263, Sony Ericsson TM506, and Google G1.

I’ve got an old motorola phone on the orange network and want to buy a sony ericsson k800i which is 3G enabled so has a 3G sim card. I guess this means I can’t just put my old sim in the new phone but I’d like to keep my old number if possible. I’m staying on the same network. Does anyone know if this can be done ?
yes just contact your service provider
